megamp3converter Convert to MP3

megamp3converter.net — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything about formats, quality, privacy and how Mega MP3 Converter works.

General

Is megamp3converter.net free?
Yes — completely free, with no account, no watermark and no audio branding added to your files.
How large a batch can I upload?
Up to 300 MB per job. There's no separate limit on the number of files inside that.
Which formats can I convert from?
Audio: MP3, WMA, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, AIFF, AMR and more. Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, M4V, FLV, WMV and MPEG.
What happens to my files?
They're processed in an isolated per-job folder and deleted automatically after a short retention period.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Everything runs on our servers; you just need a browser.

Convert to MP3

How many files can I convert at once?
There's no fixed file-count limit — the cap is on total upload size (300 MB per batch). Large libraries convert fine in a few batches.
What bitrate should I choose?
192 kbps for general music, 320 kbps when the source is lossless and you want maximum quality, 96–128 kbps for speech like podcasts and lectures.
Can I convert video files to MP3?
Yes. Upload MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, FLV, WMV or MPEG and the audio track is extracted and encoded as MP3.
Will converting to 320 kbps improve a low-quality file?
No. Bitrate sets a ceiling, not a floor — a 128 kbps source re-encoded at 320 kbps just gets bigger, not better. Convert at or below the source bitrate.
Do my files stay private?
Each job is processed in its own isolated folder and deleted automatically after a short retention window. Nothing is published or shared.
Is there a watermark or a signup?
Neither. No account, no watermark, no audio stinger over your track.

Video to MP3

Which video formats are supported?
MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, M4V, FLV, WMV, MPG/MPEG and 3GP.
Is the video kept?
No — only the audio track is extracted. The output is an MP3 file.
What if the video has no sound?
The converter reports that the file has no audio track to extract, rather than producing an empty file.
Can I convert several videos at once?
Yes — upload a batch and each video's audio is extracted separately, then delivered together.

Convert to WAV

Why convert to WAV?
Because editors, DAWs, samplers and CD authoring tools all accept it natively and it stays lossless through repeated edits.
Does WAV improve quality?
No. It preserves exactly what's in the source; it cannot restore what a lossy format discarded.
Why are WAV files so big?
There's no compression at all — about 10 MB per minute of 16-bit stereo audio. That's the trade for a lossless working format.

Convert to FLAC

Is FLAC really lossless?
Yes — decoding a FLAC file returns the exact original samples, bit for bit.
Does converting MP3 to FLAC improve it?
No. It preserves the current quality in a larger file; the detail the MP3 encoder discarded is gone for good.
Will FLAC play on my phone?
Android and modern iOS both play FLAC natively. Older car stereos and some apps still expect MP3.

Convert to M4A

Is M4A the same as AAC?
Effectively yes — M4A is the container, AAC is the codec inside it. Apple uses the .m4a extension for AAC audio.
Will M4A play on Android?
Yes. Android has played AAC for many years; M4A is not Apple-only in practice.
M4A or MP3 for my car?
MP3, unless you know the head unit is recent. MP3 remains the safest bet for older hardware.

Convert to OGG

What bitrate is the OGG output?
Vorbis quality 5 — a variable bitrate averaging roughly 160 kbps, which balances quality and size well.
Is OGG better than MP3?
At the same file size, generally yes — Vorbis is a newer design. MP3 still wins decisively on device compatibility.
Why would I need OGG?
Game engines, Linux and open-source tooling favour it because it's royalty-free.
